Holocnemus pluchei (Scopoli, 1763)
Holocnemus pluchei is a species of cellar spider, very common in the Mediterranean basin: in caves, urban habitats, and all types of terrestrial habitats. It builds sheet webs both in sheltered and exposed positions, between plant branches, in rock crevices and under natural and artificial ceilings. This species is not highly territorial, and webs with more than one spider are common.
As Holocnemus pluchei is synanthropic, it has recently expanded it's distribution northward, as well as been introduced overseas localities, such as Australia, Japan and the Americas.
